We The People: The Character of a Nation

People

“In six segments of thirty minutes each, this video introduces viewers to Americans who embody principles that give the United States its special character. Each episode profiles four to six subjects; most are lesser-known heroes such as former slaves, inventors, doctors and nurses, preachers, and creative trailblazers of various sorts. Subjects are drawn from colonial times to the late twentieth century. Viewers will note a subtle but recurring theme: faith in God guided and strengthened many in their remarkable lives. This video is a visual feast, combining period art and still photos, contemporary scenes of historic sites, and occasional dramatizations. Its narration is energetic and folksy. Storyteller Rick Sowash appears in a number of the profiles. The set includes an audio CD with the stirring original music by Steve Bias used on the DVD. Vision Video also offers separate DVDs of the individual episodes." - Monica Tenney, Congregational Libraries Today, July/Aug 2008.

"From Vision Video, which specializes in programming for the Christian marketplace, comes We the People: The Character of a Nation. The series contains six episodes about unsung heroes who contributed to the growth of the country, from the formation of the nation through modern times, from the signers of the constitution to Japanese Americans held captive during World War II. Each program is subtitled with a phrase from the Preamble to the Constitution from "A More Perfect Union" to "Secure the Blessings of Liberty." The series will be available on DVD as six 30-minute programs plus an audio CD." - C.S., Video Business, May 12, 2008
